The sea at Chios: what to know
The forecast on this page is for a sea point off Chios (38.37° N, 26.17° E), in the North-east Aegean. Values come from the Open-Meteo forecast and marine models (MET Norway as backup) and are updated several times a day.
More about the sea at Chios: wind, traffic, how to read the numbers
The strait between Chios and the Turkish coast channels north winds; with strong northerlies the sea off Chios town can be rough, while southerly winds bring waves to the east coast.
Chios has a long shipping tradition and its port serves ferries to Piraeus, Lesvos and Çeşme. Through traffic between the Dardanelles and the south passes west and east of the island.
How to read the numbers: wind up to about 10 knots and waves under 0.5 m are usually comfortable for a small boat or SUP near the coast. Waves from 1 m and gusts above 22 knots are already serious for boats under 6 m. The rating follows the boat profile you choose.
